When things don't go as planned

When I signed up for painting 1 this semester I was excited to start. I was working an developing a series of paintings dealing with antique family photographs and animals. I have been collecting vintage family photographs and comparing the family dynamics, and imagining the personality of the people I never met. I have also been exploring characteristics of animals and planned to transplant an animal into the person's body.
I understand this sounds strange, but it may be interesting if I developed it correctly.
At any rate I have to paint boring old still life instead of something I am interested in. I know that I should happily except the challenge of painting still life, but that doesn't seem to be working. So far I have learned that I will make numerous mistakes, but if I note them and make sure to not make it in the next painting I will get something out of this in the end.

Just because you can't us your idea in painting, doesn't mean that you can't bring it into another class. Keep the photos and the ideas and use them the next time you're stumped on a project.. At least I find myself stumped sometimes and have no back-up plan...
